About #STRONGLIKEDAVY

November 5, 2020 was the day that forever changed our lives.  Nothing could have prepared us for the way our world would be turned upside down when our seemingly perfectly healthy four year old son was diagnosed with cancer.  What we had been told by a pediatrician was a non-concerning growth on Davy's nose ended up being a rare and very aggressive cancer called Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma.

Davy received 42 weeks of intense chemotherapy and 30 rounds of radiation during his frontline treatment.  Due to the high recurrence rate associated with his type of ARMS, he went on to receive 6 additional months of maintenance chemo to ensure we had killed every last cancer cell in his body.  On March 15th, 2022, one month shy of Davy's sixth birthday, he rang the official warrior bell at Children's Hospital signifying the end of his long battle.  While we still face many unknowns with our son's health and he will have continued scans for years to come, we are incredibly grateful Davy reached the milestone of remission and we pray his days fighting cancer are forever behind him.

Our little boy’s bright and resilient spirit has been evident through his nearly 500 day treatment journey.  He has endured so many disruptions to normal childhood, unpleasant and potentially lifelong side effects, countless procedures, sedations, blood draws and transfusions, and far more time spent in a hospital than any child deserves.  Davy has shown tremendous strength in this fight as he lives out Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Children’s Cancer Therapy Development Institute is a non-profit research organization where Dr. Charles Keller and his team are dedicated to finding effective and safer treatment for Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma and other rare childhood cancers.  We greatly value their mission to pursue this critical research as we've seen firsthand what limited and highly toxic treatment options are available for children like our son.  Only about 4% of the billions of dollars the government spends on cancer research annually is dedicated to childhood cancer, while it is still the number one cause of death by disease for kids and young adults.

Davy's fight continues to be an inspiration to many and we feel honored to share his story to help advocate for other brave children past, present, and future, and all families impacted by the devastating reality of childhood cancer.  We thank you for considering donating to this cause in honor of our warrior.  To learn more about how a tax-deductible donation to cc-TDI helps bridge scientific discovery to effective clinical trials for children with cancer, visit cc-TDI.org.
