So thankful for the Smith's and their investment in my life. I'm honored to call them friends and to support them in the cause for their son! "For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself." About Andrew's Honor Page

On Monday, October 22, 2007, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. On Thursday of that week, my husband Shawn and I took our six-year-old son Andrew to the emergency room. Late that afternoon we were told that there was a large area of swelling in his brainstem; they suspected a mass. Andrew piped up cheerily, “My mom has a mass!”

In less than one short week, our world was turned upside down—not once, but twice—by cancer. My treatment was standard, and I have no evidence of disease over seven years later. Andrew’s cancer was inoperable and considered terminal at diagnosis. For over 25 months, Andrew lived life fully in spite of cancer. On December 4, 2009, our eight-year-old son became one of the 20% of children who do not survive cancer.

The Children’s Cancer Therapy Development Institute is all about saving the lives of kids like Andrew. Led by Charles Keller, the focus of cc-TDI is quickly moving basic science discoveries to clinical trials for children with cancer. Having worked with Charles on a number of projects over the past few years, I can say without hesitation that he is committed to honesty in his work, that he values his connections with families of children with cancer, and that, as a result, he approaches research with a refreshing sense of urgency.

My husband and I would appreciate it very much if you would consider a donation to the Children’s Cancer Therapy Development Institute in honor of Andrew. We stand behind our friend Charles Keller’s bold leadership, and we look forward to the day when every child who is diagnosed with cancer has a fighting chance to survive!
