About Maya's Honor Page

Our 4-year-old, Maya, was diagnosed with botryoid rhabdomyosarcoma in January 2020. After completing her course of chemotherapy and radiation, Maya is currently in remission and her doctors are very optimistic about her prognosis. We pray that she continues to have clear scans, and a bright future. Unfortunately, there are many presentations of pediatric cancer that simply do not respond well to current known and approved treatments, some of which were developed decades ago. Over 11,000 American kids under 15 are expected to be diagnosed with cancer by the end of 2020. But only 4% of federal cancer research dollars are dedicated to childhood cancer. Pharmaceutical companies fund 60% of cancer drug development for adults, but support almost no initiatives for children. It's just not profitable. That's why we encourage you to donate directly to the Children's Cancer Therapy Development Institute (cc-TDI). cc-TDI is embarking upon a bold scientific course of discovery to send more targeted drugs into clinical trials for those childhood cancers that have the most dire outcomes. They are on the front lines of research into pediatric cancer treatments, including for rhabdomyosarcoma.
